#fabrictrail
by South Australian Living Textiles

Originally a typewriter key used as a shortcut symbol for ‘number’, the hashtag symbol has evolved since social technology expert Chris Messina used the # hashtag key on twitter. He posted ‘Whispering tweets’ in 2007, to connect inner circles or groups of like-minded thinkers to his blogs.

#fabrictrail has established the 5 artists as a recognised exhibition group with a consolidated body of work that demonstrates the artists capacity to evolve and respond in fresh and exciting new ways. Artists Judy Bushby, Julie Haddrick, Francie Mewett, Sara Bell Smith and Wendy Thiele use a textile art framework to create a visually stimulating and tight visual story. This is done through the combined use of theme and format. But there is much more happening than seems at first viewing.

Friday 1st November - Monday 25th November

Opening event on Friday 1st November
At 6pm.

2 day Workshop

MINI MODERN IMPROV

with Julie Haddrick

Introduction to improvisational techniques that 'break the rules' and encourage spontaneity and freedom... Sound a little scary? As vague as this sounds, there are a multitude of ways to construct, using improvisational processes and in this class, a number of these 'frameworks' will be explored. In creating free form, the mind can ignore quilting rules and the rotary cutter becomes your expressive tool. Cutting fabric, playing with colour, exploring space, varying shapes and disrupting formal quilting order will connect ideas whilst lots of creative playing occurs with your scrap stash fabrics. The sample blocks illustrate some of the frameworks to try, including block building , crisscross, curves, stripy layers, strip piecing, stitch and flip, splicing; insert and slice, accent strips/blocks, chain pieced blocks ,lazy log cabins and organic circles. Set into large spaces, these mini modern technique blocks could be the start of a much bigger quilt.

This is a playful approach, stress free class!

Saturday 2nd- Sunday 3rd
November
Cost: $170 Numbers limited to 8 participants for full individual attention.
