Down Labyrinth Paths
Various Artists co-ordinated by Louise Mason and Carole Schroeder
Saturday 1st May until Sunday 30th May 2021.
Background
World Labyrinth Day is a global event that takes place on the first Saturday in May of each year. We have exciting plans for celebrating this event throughout the whole month of May in 2021, partnering with Linhay Gallery in Auburn to offer exhibition space for artists. In preparation for creating works for the exhibition, DOWN LABYRINTH PATHS, we will support artists with experiential labyrinth walks, labyrinth resource materials, and a site visit to the Gallery. Throughout the course of the exhibition and on the weekends that it runs, we will be offering a wide variety of concurrent labyrinth walks and workshops for members of the community. It will be quite a month! Louise Mason, Carole Schroeder South Australian Artists from the Barossa Region, Auburn and Adelaide include:- Jill Allanson, Leanne Austin, Hellen Bakhoff, Jill Bonner, Llewena Newell, Brad Pearson, Janet Pfeiffer, Gerard Pilkington, Anthea Piszczuk Vicki Rochau, Patricia Rose, Debbie Seater, Jeff Trahair REFLECTION - The Journey by Janet Pfeiffer “It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.”-Ursula K. Guin “When you are on a journey it is certainly helpful to know where you are going or at least the general direction in which you are moving, but don’t forget: The only thing that is ultimately real about your journey is the step that you are taking at this moment. That’s all there ever is.” Eckhart Tolle This Labyrinth represents the journey from head to heart. As we wade through the turbulent waters of our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, constructs, memories, conditionings, and all that the mind insists on clinging to for it’s sense of identity, we uncover and reveal more of our heart centre, that still, quiet place of Being. We enter the labyrinth with the intention of meeting this deeper part of ourselves and then leave with more clarity and peace to re-enter our daily lives. The labyrinth for me is an invitation to wake up and enjoy every step of this short journey we call ‘life’. REFLECTION - Our Journey by Leanne Austin My painting is based on the circle of life. Along life’s path we are faced with all sorts of changes. Sometimes the path is smooth and sometimes it can be quite rough. At times we need to take sharp turns and face these challengers of life’s lessons. As we continue down life's Labyrinth more of God’s love is revealed to us and as we see the path end so too, we see all the wonders of life through God’s glorious light as we are reunited. REFLECTION - Distill by Debbie Seater
“To all appearances, the artist acts like a mediumistic being who, from the labyrinth beyond time and space, seeks his way out to a clearing.” Marcel Duchamp. Life experiences always merge and meld into my work. It is my way of processing, understanding and expressing what lies within. The Hand Labyrinths were employed as my meditative tool; you may read the journal to gain a sense of the experiential discoveries and messages received. Attending Yoga sessions and connecting with other like minded souls propelled this work. The sessions are enriched with aspirational words and imagery; encouragement toward understanding the pelvic muscles in diagram form led to an earthly body which rests beneath the explosive, Expressionistic Acrylic medium. A tear in the canvas may permit the viewer to journey beyond the facade; entry is allowed. ______________________________________ We hope the visitors to our exhibition can reflect their own stories or moments in time by viewing this body of work.
