Impressions of my Friend's Garden
Jill Allanson

Saturday 6th March until Sunday 28th March 2021.

A delightful tour of colour and fragrance

Jill has been inspired by a cacophony of colour in her friend's garden.

My friend Pip has a beautiful rose garden, absolutely spilling over with a mix of herbs and annuals.
Colours bold and pastel mingle together with fragrant perfumes.  A cacophony of colour.  Sometimes the congestion and colour needs a full blown response.  Obviously a painters’ delight.
I have tried to capture an impression of the garden with these images.

I hope a walk through Linhay Gallery will fill you with a similar delight.

"Don't Look at me Sadly"
I phoned Pip to tell her I’d finished the first painting, her Potato Vine.  “Oh,” she said, “I’ve pulled that out and planted a Wisteria”
So, I have included both.  The title comes form a poem about pulling out an invasive potato vine.

All the names of paintings come from songs or poems.

There are roses – Apricot, Yellow, White, dreamy Pink and Pink bright.  "Roses are Blooming", "Roses with Attitude"
Hollyhocks of amazing hues.
Foxgloves lording it over the lowly.
Poppies that have hybridised to a wonderful array of colours. (Have you ever before seen the deep, deep red similar to a black boy rose?)

“The Palace” (also known as the hen-house) tucked away in the trees, is a thank you to the Isa browns for their excellent supply of eggs.
Previous Work

Over 25 years ago, because of other pursuits (mainly setting up a lavender farm and playing bridge) I gave up oil and water-colour painting.  Then, in August 2019, I once again picked up my brushes and plunged into acrylics.  I quickly realised that I needed to push myself if I was to keep up with the ideas flooding my head.  I continue to experiment, I am in a hurry, I want to try everything – doing florals, loving landscapes and thoroughly enjoying abstraction – depicting the feeling, not just the reality.

Jill is also exhibiting through  Top of the Torrens Gallery, Birdwood
and has participated with Burra Regional Art Gallery.

Linhay Gallery has a COVID-safe plan, so numbers are limited and visitors are expected to use hand sanitizer and sign the Contact Tracing Record upon entry to the gallery as well as keeping appropriate space between each other.

All work is for sale. Please contact the gallery if you are interested in purchasing one of the pieces.
