Local Images
by Local Photographers
From Friday4th October 2019 until Monday 28th October 2019.
This exhibition show-cases the skills and creativity of three local photographers,
Judy Searley, Jeff Schiller and Dean Williams. Judy held her first solo exhibition and launched her Clare Valley Calendar at Linhay Gallery in October 2018. Photography is a passion for Judy. She is inspired by ever-changing light on the landscape and captures moments in time before they pass for ever.
Having photographed seasons coming and going in the Clare Valley for a few years, she became more aware of the changes that occur in nature, in the broad acre crops grown and vineyards. She produced a 'Calendar' of these seasonal events for 2019. This year Judy has documented community events as well the changing moods of the seasons. Her second Clare Valley Calendar includes the dates of significant events throughout the year. . Dean Williams also held his first solo exhibition at Linhay Gallery in 2018. He has achieved great recognition and successful sales since then. His recent work demonstrates his interest and skills in photographing details as well as the wider landscape. Dean's philosophy is that skill with the camera is the most important aspect of photography. He does not believe in editing or altering photographs with technology. He is a well known and valued member of the Balaklava and Auburn communities. Jeff Schiller is exhibiting for the first time at Linhay. His interest in photography developed when he was about 20. He learnt basic darkroom methods at Uni studying geology and got hooked. Eventually career and family dragged him away from printing for decades although he maintained an interest in taking photos. When digital cameras arrived in the mid 2000s and his interest in photography returned. What also returned was an interest in darkroom printing, so he now does both traditional film and darkroom photography together with digital photography Jeff's work is quite different from both Judy's and Dean’s in that his preferred medium is black and white and he enjoys the challenges of artistic possibilities in digital photography. Jeff’s photographs take a different perspective on the local area, showing an interest he has for peering over bridges and for pools and puddles in the Clare Valley district. This exhibition is a very interesting and unusual blend of photographic work, well worth a visit! |
