The Singing Garden

Leanne Austin

From Friday 6th September 2019 until  Sunday 29th September 2019.

Leanne Austin, an Adelaide visual artist, has not only rekindled her former love of the beautiful town of Auburn in the Clare Valley but has discovered another treasure in Auburn. As the birthplace of C.J. Dennis one of Australia’s most popular poets, known mostly for his larrikin style poetry, Leanne has however, been inspired by another side of C.J. Dennis.

C.J. Dennis, one of Australia’s most popular poets

From an early age Leanne has always loved to draw and paint.  Growing up she always received great encouragement from her family and was inspired by beautifully illustrated letters that were sent from her Uncle in Sweden.  At the age of 12 she won first prize in a poster competition, which was a large box of oil paints and brushes. These materials provided a great boost to Leanne’s world of painting.  Then later came tertiary studies in drawing, design and textiles with a major in ceramics.

Leanne has used a variety of mediums to truly capture and embrace this natural beauty where art meets this wondrous poetry.

Leanne has been able to pass these skills and experience on by teaching art to both children and adults.  She is currently employed in art for therapy and really enjoys sharing her passion for art by helping others delve into all the wonders that art has to offer.

Leanne’s aim for her solo exhibition at the Linhay Gallery, Auburn is to take the viewer on a journey to experience the ‘Singing Garden’ in the Yarra Valley Victoria from where C.J. Dennis found his inspiration for his other works based on his vast love of nature.
