Suzanne Gummow

From Saturday 4th March - Sunday 26th March 2023

Suzanne has very vivid memories from childhood which were the beginnings of her love of all things to do with plants and flowers as well as colour..
She has travelled regularly throughout the world but mainly to exotic places in the East where she photographed the gardens, flowers and architecture for future inspiration. She takes hundreds of photos and sorts them on her computer into folders for easier access to reference drawing and colour studies.

"From these photos I draw, draw and draw."  Drawing is an extremely important part of Suzanne's art practice.  "Drawing develops your skills of observation and understanding," she says.

An exciting exhibition of textiles showcasing the diversity, creativity and brilliant colours of Suzanne's work over the past 30 years.

Photographing and drawing are the beginnings of Suzanne's art works. She starts by searching through her Visual Diaries and selects the drawings and visuals, the photographs that are appropriate for the new art works.

In most of the flower artworks she use a raw edge applique technique and the backgrounds are quilted but many other techniques are employed.

Using flowers with their wonderful colours and shapes give her a sense of wellbeing.
